BACKGROUND: I attended the school 13 years, from kindergarten all the way to graduation. I was around for all the changes over the years, and from my experience, all which had negative impacts on me as the student.
LEADERSHIP: From the time I was in middle school until graduation alone, the school went through four different administrators. There was no sense of leadership or vision driving the school at any point past elementary school.
ACADEMICS: I could not have been less prepared for college academically than I was here. Constant changes in math and science teachers especially left huge holes in those subjects for the students. Any attempt at a STEM major in college will result in countless hours of tutoring to catch up and fill in the gaps of what was not taught in the curriculum here.
ATHLETICS: Not the school to attend if you want a legitimate shot to play college ball above Division III or NAIA. Even talented athletes will not be noticed from college scouts due to the size of the school. Additionally, sports are not taken seriously from both an administrative point of view as well as by the athletes themselves collectively. Just like the case was with administration and teachers, coaching staffs and athletic directors went through multiple changes in my time even since middle school. No sense of stability was felt from the athlete's perspective. Highly competitive/passionate athletes are reprimanded for carrying those attributes onto the court/field.
SPIRITUAL: Some of my greatest spiritual mentors came from this school, most of which were teachers. Teachers would always make time available for discussions or counseling about personal, spiritual, economic problems.
CONCLUSION: While many great relationships were created with peers as well as teachers from all my years at the school, I would discourage anyone from attending TCS. High school is not something to do, its job is to prepare you for college. TCS did not prepare me academically whatsoever for college and got worse ever year. There was no stability in the areas of leadership, academics, and athletics. Athletics are only seen as something to do, not anything to be taken seriously as far as the school is concerned. If I could go back, I would transfer to any other high school to have gotten the most out of my high school experience as well as received the proper preparation for college.
